McDonough leaves BBCWW

BBC Worldwide executive VP of CEMA, Ian McDonough, is leaving to join Turner Broadcasting while Joyce Yeung has been appointed BBCWW executive VP of global content sales.

McDonough has been named senior VP and MD of Northern Europe at Turner and will lead the broadcaster’s business across the UK, Nordics and Baltic region across its kids and general entertainment portfolio.

McDonough will be based in London, reporting to Turner’s EMEA president Giorgio Stock.

Grant Welland, BBCWW finance director of global markets, will take on his prior responsibilities on an interim basis.

“Ian’s pioneering approach to CEMA has been integral to building a strong business across the region and we are very proud of what he has achieved. We wish him well in his new role which will be announced in due course,” said Paul Dempsey, BBCWW president of global markets.

Meanwhile, Yeung – exec VP and general manager for BBCWW in Asia – will relocate to London to take up the newly created role responsible for the company’s TV sales team.

She will represent sales in the content planning and acquisition process, working closely with the genre teams, territory leadership and brands and content acquisition teams.

“The new role of exec VP global content sales will help further consolidate our position as the leading TV sales operator outside the US studios,” added Dempsey.

David Weiland, currently exec VP for Western Europe, is filling Yeung’s former post, becoming exec VP Asia. Joerg Bachmaier, currently exec VP of international production, will take over the position vacated by Weiland on an interim basis before moving back to the US for another as yet unspecified BBCWW role.

The recruitment process for exec VP of CEMA will run in parallel with that for Western Europe, as the BBCWW game of musical chairs continues.
